A Fond Farewell to a Downtown Landmark

After nearly two decades at its Foshay Tower location, the popular Twin Cities family owned restaurant will officially close its doors this November, with the last day of business on Nov. 7. The restaurant moved into the historic Foshay Tower in 2005 and has been serving locals, downtown workers, and visitors ever since.

“We have loved Minneapolis and being in such a beautiful historical building,” says owner Carol Hunn-Gregory. “It’s been an honor to be part of this iconic space for so many years.”

A Look Back at Keys’ Downtown History

Keys Cafe has been a part of the Downtown Minneapolis community since 1993. “Our first location was right in Nicollet Mall where the Target employee lounge is,” recalls Carol Hunn-Gregory. After more than a decade there, Keys made the move to the Foshay Tower in 2005, where it continued to thrive.

When the Tower was remodeled and converted into a hotel in 2008, Keys remained a beloved fixture within the historic building—welcoming guests with hearty breakfasts, homemade baked goods, and the kind of comfort food that made the café a Minnesota favorite.

Gratitude for the Community

As Keys Cafe prepares to close this chapter, the Keys family and employees want to extend sincere appreciation to everyone who’s been part of their Foshay story.

Keys is deeply thankful for all the loyal customers who’ve dined with them over the years and the dedicated employees who worked so hard to make every meal memorable.

“We wouldn’t have made it this far without our incredible team and community support,” says Hunn-Gregory.
